About the Presenter:
Dr. Peter Reiners is a Professor of Geosciences and Associate Dean, Research in the College of Science at the University of Arizona. He is a geochemist and geologist with wide ranging interests in Earth and planetary science, many of them oriented around geochronology and thermochronology, especially using the (U-Th)/He system. For the last decade, he has actively participated in the Earth System Evolution program of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR)
Prior to his current role, Dr.
Reiners served as Head of the Department of Geosciences from 2013 - 2018 at the
University of Arizona where he has also been on the faculty since 2006. Prior
to coming to UA, Peter was on the faculty at Yale University and Washington
State University and was the Texaco Prize Postdoctoral Scholar in the Division
of Geological and Planetary Sciences at the California Institute of Technology.
He received a BA in geology in 1991 from Carleton College and earned his PhD in Geological Sciences from the University of Washington in 1997.
